Greater Boston Chamber and City Awake Announce 2019 Ten Outstanding Young Leaders

October 16, 2019

Honorees to be recognized Nov. 4 at City Awake’s annual Our Convention for the Next Generation.

The Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce (GBCC) and City Awake are pleased to announce the 2019 Ten Outstanding Young Leaders (TOYL) honorees. The TOYL Awards are presented annually by City Awake, a program of the GBCC aimed at connecting, engaging, and celebrating next-generation leaders. The awards celebrate the contributions of current and emerging young greater Boston leaders who have demonstrated professional, personal, and civic commitment to improving the quality of life within our region.

The 2019 honorees will be recognized on Monday, November 4, at the 2019 Our Convention. Recipients will discuss the work they are leading within their organizations, their industries, and in their communities. They will also share their visions for keeping greater Boston a thriving region for businesses and people far into the future.

Our Convention is the region’s largest convention for young professionals, drawing more than 500 attendees looking to strengthen their networks, participate in leadership development workshops and sessions, and lend their perspectives and voices to some of the most pressing issues facing greater Boston’s competitiveness. Affordability, housing, public transit, inclusivity, and climate readiness are just a few topics scheduled for discussion at Our Convention.

This event is part of City Awake’s mission to create a platform to engage Boston’s next generation of leaders, understand their perceptions of the region, address their challenges living and working here, and elevate their voices in creating solutions to civic, business, and policy issues.

The 2019 Ten Outstanding Young Leaders were nominated by members of the community and selected by a committee of past TOYL honorees.

“Our 2019 Ten Outstanding Young Leaders are a wonderful representation of our diverse and collaborative business community, and these remarkable individuals are leaving their mark on Greater Boston through their powerful contributions in the office and beyond,” said Chamber president & CEO, James E. Rooney. “We couldn’t be more excited to honor these young leaders at Our Convention, an event that aligns perfectly with the Chamber’s own mission to prepare, retain, and celebrate our talented workforce.”

In 2012, the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce revived the Ten Outstanding Young Leaders (TOYL) awards to continue the tradition of honoring Greater Boston’s current and future leaders. The TOYL awards were presented by the Boston Jaycees from 1952 to 2006 to identify and celebrate young leaders. Since its inception, more than 500 young leaders have been honored including President John F. Kennedy; co-founder of Wayfair, Niraj Shah; Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley; and community advocate and United Nations representative, Carol Fulp. View all past honorees here
